A customer, Robert McCollum, spent 12 1/2 years working on creating his model of the H.M.S Victory sailing ship. He commissioned me to build a display case that would house and protect his work so it could be displayed proudly and safely and I decided on a display kit.
This model is in 1:78 scale and is completely scratch built. He worked from actual plans on how and why everything was constructed for this ship. He also included in the journal he kept, all the actual battles she was involved in, all the methods he incorporated in building her and all pertinent information he could find.
The display case was built in solid cherry with a dark stained satin finish and is in the kit form since it’s so large. When a kit in this large, I also add an apron to the underside of the base to keep it flat and true over its lifetime because it’s solid wood and not laminated fiber board. With a display this size, it’s impossible to ship this as anything other than a kit and get it there safely. UPS handled the shipping part.
This display sits proudly in the town of Agawam’s Public Library in Massachusetts. Grandpa’s Cabinets is proudly committed to building quality display cases to house and protect anyone’s personal items and models. This is just another example of displaying his work and keeping it safe from harm.
