After several requests for a Custom Display Case that could not only protect but also display both sides of a model with total clarity and detail, I now offer the Custom Mirror Backed Display Case. With this case, I build it with the constructed edge design to whatever size requirements are demanded and place a 1/4" thick piece of mirror acrylic on the back side with clear everywhere else. This allows any viewers of a builders model to see all aspects of a model without having to remove the piece or uncover the model. This also keeps the possibility of accidental damage from dropping or mishandling to an impossibility. The cost is a little more than an all clear acrylic top, but for those who want to show off ALL of their work, it's a real plus.
Shown in the photos is my build, right from the box, of the 1:350 scale Tamaya USS Missouri placed in a mirror backed Custom Display Case. As it shows, you can readily view both the port and starboard aspects of the model. The base is solid oak with a walnut stain and gloss polyurethane topcoat and is routed along the edges to afford the acrylic top to sit securely and comfortably over the model.
